We’re currently being drenched under the watery weight of Tropical Depression Bill as he expends his energy over the Ohio River Valley. And although we’ve had our share of rain this week, all the denizens of the garden could use a good soaking as we lean into the the maw of Summer tomorrow, the Solstice, the longest day of the year.
The Columbine (or Granny’s Bonnet or Aquilegia) will soon be finished, making way for more heat-loving flowers. But, my-oh-my, how their beauty graces us while they’re here. These little darlings do their level-best to inspire us with their soft beauty and delicate features. Walking among these graceful dancers reminds us that despite all the ugliness and mean-spiritedness in the world, there is loveliness and goodness and kindness, as well.
That blue Aquilegia is especially gorgeous Benjamin. Happy Summer to you.
Thanks so much and a happy summer to you, as well!
Oh yes, well said! They are lovely and spread joy here too. Happy Summer Solstice Benjamin!
Happy Summer Solstice to you, as well! Cheers to the season of lemonade, homegrown tomatoes and time spent in the hammock 😉
These are stunning shots. Please besides your apparent photography skills, what kind of camera and lens are you using? 🙂
Thanks, Judy! I’m a little chagrined to tell you that those particular photographs were taken with my phone (a Samsung Note.) 🙂
That’s great because I have a Samsung Note 4 too. 🙂 But, I’m thinking you still have skills.
Love the Columbine, I have always lived too far south to have any real success with them, however, yours are beautiful.
Thanks so much! And you’re right, once the heat sets in, these little beauties are done until next year.
we tried and tried and got one or two flowers and a million leaf miners!
grrrr, leaf miners! 😉
The columbines are always one of my favourite late spring flowers. Happy summer!
Mine too…It’s always sad to see them go once the heat sets in. A happy summer to you, as well!
I have grannies bonnet in our garden too .. They have self seeded like crazy. Good! I think they are delightful 😃
I find them delightful as well and we’re always a little sad to see them go once the heat sets in. Cheers, Ben
beautiful flowers! 🙂
Thank you!
I adore Aquilegias. What gorgeous photographs.
Thanks so much! They are definitely among my favorites as well!
I don’t want to jinx it but I think we’ve been pretty lucky with the mix of rain & sun so far…are you guys on the drought side or the flood side of the equation out there? PS, Happy Fourth!!!
Happy to hear you’re getting your fair shair of sun and rain. We’ve had a good mix so far, too, but it seems to come in waves…several days of rain then several days of sun. The garden seems happy, so we’ll take it! As if we had an alternative 😉 And a happy Summer to you! Cheers, Ben
Yes, indeed. I like your columbine colours. Mine produce new shades and colour combinations each spring.
I’m always curious to see colors will show up each spring…like a floral version of Christmas 😉
Beautiful columbines. Beautiful photography! 🙂
Thanks so much! Columbines are among my favorites!
