In Which Winter Captures Us in Her Beautiful but Cold Embrace

image

This Snow snuck up on us in Mid-November and was followed quickly by the kind of cold snap usually reserved for January or February in our neck of the woods.  Definitely rare for pre-Thanksgiving weather but beautiful nonetheless. And it instantly puts us in the mood for the holidays.

The weatherman says warmer temperatures are on the way along with lots of rain,  so the snow won’t last. I think the holiday spirit will,  though.  We’ll keep wearing our jinglebells and drinking hot chocolate and counting the days…

Looking good Benjamin. This is quite the abrupt transition to winter. Jingle all the way! πŸ™‚

  2. Chloris says:

We have no snow here, just dank, dingy darkness and drizzle.
Your snow is beautiful but I would rather look at it on your blog than out of the window. Jinglebells don’ t do it for me.

  3. There’s nothing quite like snow on an evergreen to evoke a holiday mood! I remember a few years ago, we had a freak storm that dumped about 16 inches of snow on us a couple days before Halloween. My family and I walked down the road to a neighbor’s Halloween party singing Christmas carols! No snow here for us this week, but it is plenty cold! Woke up to 14 degrees this AM. Very fine hot chocolate weather, indeed!

  4. Wow, u got walloped! Please don’t send any over our way (just yet). πŸ˜‰

We’ll try and keep it to ourselves…but I’m afraid you’ll be getting some soon enough. Maybe a white Christmas for everyone. And we can take some comfort in the fact we don’t live in Buffalo! πŸ™‚

  5. It’s definitely winter here but I’m happy to say the sun is shining and no white stuff yet. πŸ™‚

  6. Brrr and beautiful, the evergreens look great!

  7. Wow, it looks beautiful there! No sign of any snow here in the UK, but I’ve heard that it’s going to be a hard winter this year…. brrrrr!!!

  8. Julie says:

Thats a lovely evocative photo, we are hopefully a long way from any snow yet, I like it best when no one has to drive in it, we do not cope in the UK with snow, everything grinds to halt.

  9. rusty duck says:

It’s at the pretty stage. Rain will do it no good at all,

  10. Helen says:

Good to hear you are enjoying the season, Ben. I hope the predicted rain doesn’t last, though!

  11. Gorgeous .. Jingle jingle πŸ™‚

  12. Eliza Waters says:

Very pretty! It does put us in the holiday mood. A good reminder to get on with organizing and making plans!

  13. Christina says:

Your cold, snowy photograph is lovely in its own way. Keep warm and lets hope all your plants are snug under their winter blanket of snow.

    • Benjamin says:

That was a cold week! This week we’re back in the 60s but will soon be careening back below freezing again. This time of year keeps us guessing in our neck of the woods πŸ˜‰

  14. Beautiful capture Benjamin, and it appears our weather in northern Michigan is mirroring yours…for now anyway! You have a warm, heartfelt blog here. Thanks for finding mine and subscribing. Here comes the holidays!! Cheers, Margie

  15. Christina says:

Could be a Christmas card! I love seeing the snow, I’m just not that keen on having to live in it!

    • Benjamin says:

Thanks! And yes, you’re right, snow is much better to look at then to live in. But there’s something nice about watching it pile up outside while you and the ones you love are snug inside πŸ™‚
